Position Summary

The role is responsible for daily supervision and coordination of maintenance activities across Maintenance, Calibration, and Utilities Technicians, as well as external contractors. This position ensures work orders are effectively planned and executed to maximize productivity while minimizing equipment downtime and operational disruptions. The incumbent ensures technicians and contractors are fully prepared with approved job plans, materials, tools, and equipment, and that all work is performed safely and in compliance with site requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate shift technicians and contractors to maximize their utilization in completing mechanical maintenance and repair work orders.
  • Work with Maintenance Planners and Production Schedulers to meet schedule compliance. Promptly respond to emergency work requests while negotiating other work order requests.
  • Maintain close communications with all customers, Safety Department, and other Technical Services Department Supervisors and Coordinators.
  • Assess and implement the training needs, not only in technical areas, but also leadership and development opportunities.
  • Conduct periodic safety and environmental inspections to ensure compliance with GMP practice and company policies.
  • Ensure all maintenance work order results are recorded in CMMS (Maximo).
  • Ensure departmental compliance to all FDA, OSHA, environmental and local regulatory requirements.
  • Regular assignments are completed without detailed instructions. Assistance is readily available for problems not covered by policies and procedures. Work is checked occasionally during progress and reviewed upon completion for adequacy of final results. The work at this level is characterized by freedom from immediate supervisory control on routine and regular assignments.

Education & Experience

  • Associates Degree in a technical field or equivalent training.
  • 5+ years in an industrial, operations, or maintenance role.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    • Thorough knowledge of industrial plant equipment in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields.
    • Working knowledge of FDA, OSHA, GMP regulations, and local code regulations.
    • Ability to identify adequate spare parts inventory on new or existing equipment.
    • Trade skills of a Maintenance Mechanic.
    • Use of Maximo CMMS for accessing data and reports.

    Physical Demands

    • Located a medium scale manufacturing facility with classified areas requiring appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Ability to work in manufacturing and utility environments with exposure to noise, temperature variations, and mechanical equipment
    • Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, twisting, crouching, squatting, kneeling, sitting, crawling, walking on level surfaces, reaching at shoulder height, and repetitive use of arms, hands, and wrists.

    Work Environment

    Work may be performed in an office setting, inside the facility, or during outside travel, and may involve working alone as well as collaborating with or working around others.

    Supervisory Responsibilities 

    Responsible for the direct supervision of technicians, including goal setting and performance management within the department.
