We are excited to announce that the National Education Association is seeking an experienced and strategic Manager, Tax and Regulatory Compliance to join the Business and Financial Services Department of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. This leadership role is ideal for a collaborative accounting and compliance professional who is passionate about strengthening financial stewardship, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the mission of the nation's largest labor union representing educators.

As a member of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer management team, the Manager, Tax and Regulatory Compliance provides leadership and supervision for the organization's tax and regulatory compliance function. This position oversees compliance with applicable federal, state, and District of Columbia regulations, ensures adherence to NEA policies, and serves as a trusted advisor to headquarters staff, state affiliates, and associated NEA organizations on a wide range of accounting, tax, and financial reporting matters. The Manager is responsible for leading the preparation, review, and filing of complex regulatory filings, including the Department of Labor Form LM-2, IRS Forms 990 and 990-T, partnership returns, District of Columbia filings, sales and use tax, information reporting, unclaimed property, and ERISA-related compliance. The role also oversees compliance calendars, strengthens internal controls, monitors regulatory changes, develops policies and procedures, manages audit responses, and recommends cost-effective business practices that enhance fiscal accountability and operational efficiency. In addition to providing technical expertise, this leader supervises assigned staff, manages workflow priorities, develops training and guidance for stakeholders, supports financial system enhancements, prepares executive-level reporting and presentations, and partners with leadership to improve business processes and compliance across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience in professional accounting, auditing, financial systems implementation, regulatory compliance, internal controls, business process improvement, and staff leadership. Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Unit4, PeopleSoft, Sage Intacct, SAP, or Oracle, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and familiarity with e-filing platforms including OLMS, IRS Modernized e-File/IRIS, and MyTax.DC.gov are highly desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, sound professional judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (master's degree preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must have five to seven years of progressively responsible management experience in nonprofit or union accounting with extensive knowledge of Department of Labor LM-2 reporting, IRS Forms 990 and 990-T, partnership tax filings, District of Columbia tax requirements, sales and use tax, unclaimed property, ERISA Form 5500 reporting, GAAP (FASB ASC 958), and financial management. An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required, and additional certifications such as CMA or CIA are a plus.
