Job Description
The Inventory & Safety Manager is responsible for the accuracy of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) through rigorous cycle counting, discrepancy investigation, and stock optimization based on movement velocity. This role oversees returns management and key warehouse initiatives while maintaining an efficient, organized operation. In addition to inventory control, this role leads all OSHA, HIOSH, and Servco compliance initiatives, certifications, and risk mitigation efforts for the warehouse in partnership with Corporate Safety, ensuring a productive, organized, and accident-free environment.
KEY OUTCOMES:
Inventory Integrity & Optimization
- Cycle Count Management: Oversee and complete all cycle counts; investigate and resolve discrepancies between the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and physical inventory. Partner with Business Office Management to reconcile inventory balances.
- Slotting Strategy: Optimize warehouse layout and bin locations based on inventory velocity to maximize picking efficiency and workflow.
- Returns & Defectives Management: Administer the returns process, including customer credits, core returns, and vendor claims to ensure accurate and timely resolution.
- Special Projects Leadership: Lead strategic warehouse initiatives such as racking reconfigurations, bin audits, and system enhancements to improve operational effectiveness.
- Systems Administration: Leverage the WMS to maintain inventory accuracy, generate actionable inventory reports, and troubleshoot system issues as needed.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
- Safety Leadership: Oversee OSHA, HIOSH, and Servco compliance activities, including routine safety inspections, accident investigations, and hazard communication programs.
- Technical & Compliance Training: Lead certification and training programs for forklift operation, PPE usage, and warehouse safety standards.
- Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular safety meetings and collaborate with the Corporate Safety Team to ensure full compliance with company and regulatory policies.
- Facility Stewardship: Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by coordinating equipment maintenance and facility repairs.
Leadership & Team Management
- Talent Development: Drive warehouse performance through strategic hiring, structured onboarding, continuous training, and ongoing professional development.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching to ensure alignment with departmental goals and performance standards.
- Administrative Oversight: Manage departmental labor resources, including scheduling, timekeeping, leave administration, and resolution of employee concerns.
Strategic Collaboration
- Vendor Partnership: Collaborate with Purchasing and suppliers to resolve core returns, defective parts, and related claims efficiently.
- Cross-Functional Support: Partner with SPC departments to address operational challenges and maintain high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify, develop, and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and drive productivity across warehouse operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Minimum three years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or inventory control, or demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Forklift, Picker, and Hazmat certification preferred
- Auto parts warehouse experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Able to operate forklift, picker, and other material handling equipment
- Warehouse Management System (WMS) knowledge preferred

- Technical Instruction: Training staff on forklift and WMS usage.

- Risk Assessment: Conducting inspections and accident investigations.
- Vendor Liaison: Managing returns and cores with suppliers.
- Asset Maintenance: Scheduling repairs for facility and equipment.
- Data Analysis: Using WMS reports to drive decisions.
- People Development: Mentoring staff and managing performance.
