Job Description

The Legal Talent Compliance and Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all Firm attorneys comply with applicable regulatory and compliance requirements. This includes monitoring bar admissions, registrations and renewals, reviewing and tracking attorneys’ Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements, updating and maintaining the Legal Policy Handbook, and collaborating with the Office of General Counsel (OGC) on related matters as needed.

In addition to managing and overseeing these critical compliance functions, the Legal Talent Compliance and Operations Manager will lead the efforts to streamline and enhance related processes, with a focus on automation, efficiency, and continuous improvement. This Manager will also contribute to the development and execution of the Legal Talent department’s technology strategy as related to regulatory and policy compliance, including implementation, optimization, and oversight of Legal Talent systems and tools.

This individual will report to the Director, Legal Talent Development and be required to be in the office at least 3 days a week.

Responsibilities include:

Policy Oversight

  • Develop and maintain Firm policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal standards

  • Stay current with developments by monitoring new laws and regulations, and evolving best practices within the industry

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to annually update the Legal Policy Handbook, including state and overseas supplements

  • Administer policies relevant to Legal Talent, including but not limited to the time diary policy, remote work requests, social media policy and outside employment

  • Serve as liaison between Legal Talent and OGC on all policy related matters

Core Processes

  • Conduct regular audits/assessments in collaboration with the OGC to ensure the firm’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations

  • Review and monitor attorney files, including work authorization documentation, onboarding documents, personnel records, and other related materials, to verify data for accuracy and completeness

  • Collaborate with the Managing Clerks Office and Legal Talent Training team, as well as counterparts in other offices, to ensure attorneys remain in good standing with relevant bar associates and in compliance with jurisdictional CLE requirements, including with respect to bar admission process in NY office and for attorneys working remotely  

  • Review requests for relocation or remote work vis-à-vis local bar requirements; monitor attorney remote arrangements to ensure proper oversight and compliance

  • Respond to internal and external surveys and RFPs, and partner with OGC on firm’s annual audit of professional liability insurance

Operations

  • Analyze and document current Legal Talent processes for accuracy and identify opportunities for process improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline Legal Talent workflow processes, recommend solutions, and help implement best practices to scale the Legal Talent function

  • Serve as primary contact for the Workday Support Team for all matters related to attorney population

  • Partner with the Senior Manager of Legal Talent Technology & Analytics to help:

    • Pilot, implement, and optimize AI and automation tools aimed at streamlining Legal Talent workflows and enhancing productivity

    • Provide end-to-end support for Legal Talent projects – from planning and coordination to rollout and adoption

  • Streamline and oversee regular Legal Talent reporting to various stakeholders including the Legal Talent Development Committee, Administrative Partners and Standing Committees.

Experience

  • 6-8 years of comparable experience in Legal Talent or Human Resources at a law firm strongly preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential

  • Must possess superior judgment and the ability to deal discreetly with confidential information

  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to engage across technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and results-driven with a passion for legal innovation

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (including Excel and Powerpoint) and other software including Workday and viDesktop is required

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degrees or certifications in human resources, professional development or related fields are preferred

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $190,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
