Job Description

Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system - reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

Symbotic is seeking a Manager, Bot Reliability Engineering to lead the development, validation, and delivery of system-level solutions for our autonomous warehouse platform powered by Symbots. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on building and scaling robotic systems operating in fleets of tens of thousands of robots across customer sites.

This role sits at the intersection of robotics software, hardware integration, and operational performance. The primary objective is to build and lead a team and processes that deliver reliable, resilient, and scalable system solutions that consistently meet or exceed customer performance KPIs.

We are looking for a technically strong, data-driven leader who thrives in complex, real-world environments and can translate system-level challenges into structured engineering execution.

What we do

We are a talented team of roboticists working on the heart of Symbotic's automation solution - Symbot, the mobile robot. We are responsible for delivering solutions for the storage and retrieval of cases performed in a fully autonomous structure operating 1,000s of Symbots at customer sites.

What you'll do

  • Fleet-Scale Systems Leadership

  • Lead the identification, root-cause analysis, and resolution of system-level issues impacting large-scale robotic fleets.

  • Drive reliability, availability, and performance improvements across thousands of deployed robots.

  • Establish system performance guardrails and monitoring frameworks tied directly to customer KPIs (throughput, error rates, recovery time, uptime).

  • End-to-End Systems Engineering

  • Oversee integration of robotics hardware, embedded systems, control software, perception, and operational workflows into cohesive, resilient system solutions.

  • Lead cross-functional efforts across robotics controls, perception, platform software, hardware, operations, and field engineering.

  • Ensure system architecture and release plans support scalability, redundancy, and operational robustness.

  • Data-Driven Performance Optimization

  • Own data-driven decision making across system performance metrics.

  • Lead hands-on analysis of robot logs, telemetry, diagnostics, and operational data to drive actionable improvements.

  • Develop structured processes for performance monitoring, regression prevention, and failure trend analysis.

  • Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of 5-10 systems and robotics engineers.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and technical rigor.

  • Develop technical depth within the team across systems thinking, reliability engineering, and data analysis.

  • Support hiring and workforce planning to scale the organization alongside product growth.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in robotics, automation, or complex distributed systems engineering.

  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience managing technical teams.

  • Strong systems engineering mindset with expertise in robotics control software, real-time systems, and hardware-software integration.

  • Demonstrated capability in structured root-cause analysis and failure investigation.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with scripting languages (SQL, Python or similar).

  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data analysis tools and telemetry systems.

  • Demonstrated success delivering robotics products at scale in real-world production environments.

  • Proven experience operating in Agile development frameworks.

  • Experience working in Linux environments and with version control systems (Git).

  • Comfortable performing hands-on analysis of logs, diagnostics, and operational system data.

Our environment

  • Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
