The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Security. The Manager, Security develops University-wide plans, tests, and training programs to mitigate and respond to all types of campus emergencies and disasters. This position works in conjunction with hospitals, schools, businesses, and local emergency services to effectively carry out department functions.
Responsible for daily operations of certain segments of the Security Department. Schedules, supervises, and evaluates staff, reviews daily activity and reports, and assures consistent protection and enforcement of policy.
Core Job Functions:
Coordinates the development of National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliant incident command structures to integrate University Emergency Response.
Plans with outside response agencies and oversees the training and implementation of the NIMS strategies throughout the school.
Conducts risk and vulnerability assessments by types of emergencies.
Prepares and implements mitigation strategies in coordination with other departments in order to minimize impact and disruption.
Trains security personnel in emergency response and disaster recovery activities.
Collaborates with department managers to train, test, and improve department unit plans.
Coordinates and implements emergency notification systems and interfaces with other building control systems, such as fire alarm, public address, and access control systems.
Maintains satellite phones and other emergency response radios and equipment to ensure continuous readiness for immediate activation.
Coordinates emergency response and special event planning activities with federal, state, and city authorities.
Takes on special projects such as the implementation and training of armed security personnel.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Department Specific Functions
Coordinates parking enforcement, cashiers, and parking equipment maintenance.
Coordinates valet contract compliance and operations.
Coordinates shuttle interfaces, pickups, and drop-offs at satellites.
Coordinates security responses to threats by disgruntled patients at satellites with on-site administrators, physicians, risk management and patient experience.
Manages operations of certain segments of the public safety department such as shift coordination, scheduling, leave request, etc.
Supervises and evaluates staff.
Provides daily control over labors costs through effective scheduling, review of overtime expenditures and motivation of personnel to avoid excessive absenteeism.
Responsible for verification and approval of employee time, time-off requests and work schedules via KRONOS and Workday.
Coordinates repairs and maintenance of security systems including video, card access and radios.
Coordinates activities with other department managers including site administrators.
Organizes, coordinates, and collaborates with other managers to provide training for security personnel.
Conducts misconduct investigations and coordinates with Human Resources.
Coordinates after-hour contractor activity and special events, which require special entry, temporary parking, or additional security personnel. Provides documentation as required for invoicing and fee collection.
Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures.
Collaborates with Director and Emergency Preparedness Manager to implement policies and procedures and training that govern the response of security personnel to natural disasters, civil disturbances or other events that may threaten the University community.
Develops and implements information gathering and reporting to attain security objectives.
Implements and reviews departmental policy and procedures.
Participates in hiring initiatives to include panel interviews, position administration, and candidate recommendations.
Assists in analyzing operational requirements and staffing.
Other Duties as assigned.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Knowledge of business and management principles.
Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
