Where you will work:This position offers a hybrid work option up to 50% remote and is open to any Compeer office location in Illinois.

The contributions you will make:

This position leads a team responsible for the management and servicing of high-risk asset portfolios across an assigned region or territory. The position blends people leadership, credit decision‑making, and risk management expertise to support strong portfolio performance, effective resolution strategies, and regulatory compliance.

A typical day:

Team Management

  • Leads and develops a geographically diverse team responsible for the management and resolution of complex and high-risk credit exposures, including coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Fosters a collaborative and accountable team environment while managing workloads and resources to ensure efficient and timely resolution of work.
  • Provides guidance and training related to credit processes, systems, documentation requirements, and policy interpretation.

Credit Analysis and Decision Authority

  • Leads the evaluation of complex lending and servicing requests by reviewing financial statements, credit analyses, and supporting documentation to assess borrower risk and repayment capacity.
  • Exercises delegated lending authority by approving, declining, or escalating credit decisions in accordance with established policies and authority limits.
  • Determines appropriate credit structures, loan terms, risk ratings, and account classifications based on transaction complexity and risk profile.

Credit Resolution and Loan Servicing Oversight

  • Provides oversight and strategic direction for the management and resolution of distressed or high-risk credit exposures within the Risk Asset Unit.
  • Guides team members in developing restructuring strategies, financial recovery plans, and other solutions for financially stressed clients.
  • Oversees servicing strategies and monitoring plans for higher-risk accounts, including delinquency trends, restructures, disbursements, receipts, and repricing activities

Collection and Legal Recovery

  • Leads and supports the resolution of complex or non-performing credit exposures through restructuring strategies, negotiated settlements, forbearance arrangements, and other recovery solutions.
  • Approves or denies restructuring requests, including standstill agreements, re-amortizations, and other credit modifications in accordance with delegated authority.
  • Collaborates with internal and external legal counsel on matters involving bankruptcies, foreclosures, replevins, receiverships, and other legal recovery proceedings, including approving escalation of accounts for legal action when appropriate.

Governance, Audit and Reporting

  • Represents the Risk Asset Unit on cross-functional initiatives and coordinate with internal partners including credit, legal, accounting, audit, and leadership teams.
  • Ensures compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Supports financial and portfolio reporting requirements, including communication of reserve changes, charge-offs, and other credit risk matters to leadership.
  • Partners with internal and external reviewers including Internal Credit Review (ICR), AgriBank, the Farm Credit Administration (FCA), and PwC.

Acquired Property

  • Oversees the transfer of loans to acquired property status, ensuring all required documentation and appraisals are obtained and valuations are accurate.
  • Evaluates property condition and determine appropriate strategies for marketing and disposition to achieve the best value in a reasonable timeframe.

The skills and experience we prefer you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, agricultural business, finance, accounting, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in agriculture and/or banking business/finance.
  • Minimum of three years of leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state (Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) laws, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
  • Leadership skills to select, evaluate, engage, motivate, mentor, train, delegate, reward and lead remote team members.
  • Deep understanding of credit, the art and science.
  • Understanding of accounting and finance principles as well as farm financial statements.
  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to discuss a variety of job-related topics, and effectively communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences.
  • Skill in analyzing information to formulate logical and objective conclusions.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications and customer relationship management (CRM) programs.
  • Skill in utilizing a systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Solid knowledge of loan analysis and sound credit administration principles.
  • Skill in negotiating acceptable and favorable terms and conditions related to loan collections.
  • Solid knowledge of Borrower Rights related to loan servicing.
  • Working knowledge of real estate marketing related to acquired property management.
  • Extensive Credit Underwriting experience.
  • Basic accounting knowledge.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a network of internal and external agricultural influencers and professionals.
  • Valid driver’s license.

The actual title and base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for variable compensation and other benefits.

Base Pay

$105,700 - $160,300USD
