Managing Assistant Director for Kean Jersey City Residence Life

The Managing Assistant Director for Kean Jersey City Residence Life (Managing Assistant Director 3) is a full-time,12-month live-in position in the Office of Residence Life at Kean Jersey City and serves as the primary on-site administrator responsible for the leadership, coordination, and oversight of all residence life operations at Kean Jersey City. This position provides strategic and day-to-day management of residence halls, student support services, housing operations, crisis response, and student engagement initiatives. As the sole manager overseeing residence life functions at the campus, the Managing Assistant Director exercises significant independent judgment and serves as the lead point of contact for residential students, campus partners, and external stakeholders related to housing and the residential student experience.

Reporting to the Director of Residence Life at Kean's Union campus, or their managerial designee, the Managing Assistant Director is responsible for managing day-to-day operations, activities and services for 600 plus students living in residence halls. Based on a firm commitment to student development theory, the Managing Assistant Director will supervise, develop, and assess a comprehensive residence education effort, including personnel development and civic engagement opportunities.

The Managing Assistant Director provides strategic vision, leadership, and staff motivation within the Department of Residence Life This position is responsible for overseeing student development initiatives, advising multiple student and staff groups, and representing the department on university committees and task forces. This role provides leadership for the department's assessment efforts and directly supervises Residence Hall Directors, Student Assistants/Graduate Assistants, and professional support staff. The Managing Assistant Director is also responsible for implementing key departmental initiatives, including Living Learning Communities, the First-Year Experience, and Upper-Class Experience programs.

This employee will work on site at Kean Jersey City. On-campus residency is required and will be provided by the Office of Residence Life. This employee is considered essential personnel and is critical to the functioning of the University and continuation of key operations and services. This position requires travel and a regular evening and weekend work schedule and serves as the department's emergency response and duty coordinator through a year-round, on-call rotation.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in student affairs within higher education is required. A Master's degree, demonstrated experience in residence hall management, supervision of Residence Life programs, leadership development, student and community development, and administrative operations is preferred. Experience with Living Learning Communities and special interest housing is also preferred. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of institutional stakeholders and strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. The ability to respond effectively to emergencies outside of normal business hours and participate in an on-call rotation is essential.

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is: $65,730 - $70,000. Employment at Kean requires working at any of our New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites, which may include, but not be limited to: the main campus in Union; Kean Ocean in Toms River; Kean Skylands in Jefferson Township; Kean Jersey City; Kean at Brookdale in Middletown Township; Manahawkin; Princeton; and Trenton. Location assignments will be based on operational and university needs. Faculty may also be assigned to teach online classes for Kean Global.
