Managing Assistant Director of Fire Safety, Jersey City

Under the direction of the Vice President of Facilities and Campus Planning or their managerial designee, the Managing Assistant Director of Fire Safety (Managing Assistant Director 3) is responsible for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the campus community at the Jersey City location and ensures fire prevention, emergency preparedness and compliance with all fire-related laws and codes. The Managing Assistant Director provides fire and life safety educational and awareness programs and continually reviews all campus facilities and buildings to create and manage a "built in" fire safe environment in which faculty, staff and students are prepared/trained and able to react, evaluate and decide on the correct action should a fire or life safety emergency occur. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. This position assists with incident response and in emergency situations.

Work may occasionally involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree; a valid driver's license; a valid New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Fire Inspector license; and two years of professional experience as a working fire inspector is required. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis. NJ DCA Fire Subcode license HHS and experience managing fire safety for a college or university is preferred. Candidate must maintain on-call availability for any fire, weather or emergency situation and respond to campus for crisis incidents as necessary.

This position requires the ability to perform essential functions that require physical activity including, but not limited to: driving, walking long and short distances, standing for long durations of time outdoors/indoors, bending and/or stooping, lifting/carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds and climbing stairs. The work environment will expose the Managing Assistant Director to chemicals, heat, noise, odor, and dust. The Managing Assistant Director will be expected to wear appropriate personal protective devices including gloves, eye protection/face shield, a dust mask, N95 respiratory protection, hearing protection and a lab coat or apron.

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is: $75,000 to $85,000. Employment at Kean requires working at any of our New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites, which may include, but not be limited to: the main campus in Union; Kean Ocean in Toms River; Kean Skylands in Jefferson Township; Kean Jersey City; Kean at Brookdale in Middletown Township; Manahawkin; Princeton; and Trenton. Location assignments will be based on operational and university needs. Faculty may also be assigned to teach online classes for Kean Global.
