Job Description

Company Overview

Price Benowitz LLP is a mid-sized law firm headquartered in Washington, DC, with offices throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and South Carolina. Our practice areas include Family Law, Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, Trusts & Estates, and more. Guided by our core values of Passion, Integrity, and Excellence, we are committed to delivering exceptional legal services while fostering a collaborative and supportive workplace.

Position Summary

Price Benowitz LLP is seeking an experienced Managing Family Law Paralegal to provide dedicated support to one Family Law attorney while also managing the Family Law staff team.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced family law professional who can serve as the attorney’s right hand while providing day-to-day guidance, coordination, and oversight to the Family Law support staff.

The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, highly organized, and comfortable taking ownership of both substantive casework and team operations. Washington, DC family law experience is strongly preferred (but willing to consider candidates with VA and/or MD Family Law as well).

Candidates located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area may work on an in-office or hybrid basis. We will also consider highly qualified candidates outside the DC metro area for a fully remote arrangement, with occasional travel to Washington, DC as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, dedicated paralegal support to one Family Law attorney throughout all phases of family law matters.
  • Manage and coordinate the Family Law staff team, helping establish priorities, delegate work, monitor assignments, and ensure deadlines and service expectations are met.
  • Serve as a resource to Family Law staff, providing guidance, support, and accountability while promoting effective collaboration across the team.
  • Support matters involving divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, contempt actions, domestic violence matters, and post-judgment proceedings.
  • Draft, review, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, financial affidavits, settlement agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Prepare and electronically file pleadings and ensure compliance with applicable court rules, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Manage attorney calendars, court dates, discovery deadlines, mediation schedules, and case timelines.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing compassionate, professional communication and regular case updates.
  • Review, organize, and summarize financial records, tax returns, bank statements, business records, and other documents relevant to family law matters.
  • Coordinate discovery, document production, subpoenas, depositions, and expert witnesses.
  • Prepare hearing notebooks, trial binders, exhibits, witness files, and mediation materials.
  • Maintain organized electronic case files and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  • Monitor case progress, proactively identify outstanding tasks, and ensure matters continue moving efficiently.
  • Work collaboratively with attorneys, opposing counsel, court personnel, mediators, experts, clients, and internal staff.
  • Accurately record billable time and assist with case management and administrative responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of DC, VA or MD family law paralegal experience, preferably in a litigation-focused practice.
  • Extensive experience handling family law matters from inception through resolution.
  • Washington, DC family law experience is strongly preferred, including familiarity with DC court procedures, filings, and local practice.
  • Prior experience leading, managing, mentoring, or coordinating paralegals or legal support staff strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional drafting, proofreading, organizational, and case management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of discovery procedures, court filings, and litigation support.
  • Ability to manage multiple active cases and competing priorities while overseeing the work of others.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, accountability, and client service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced Family Law Paralegal who can successfully balance two important responsibilities: serving as the dedicated right hand to one Family Law attorney and managing the Family Law staff team.

The ideal candidate does not simply wait for assignments. They anticipate what needs to be done, identify potential issues before they become problems, take initiative, and follow through independently. As a team leader, they are approachable and collaborative while maintaining accountability, organization, and high standards for the department.

This position is particularly well suited for an experienced family law professional who enjoys both substantive casework and the opportunity to provide leadership and direction to others.

Schedule & Location

  • Full-time position; 9AM-6PM Monday-Friday.
  • Candidates in the Washington, DC metropolitan area may work on an in-office or hybrid basis.
  • We will consider highly qualified candidates outside the DC metro area for a fully remote arrangement.
  • Remote candidates must be available for occasional travel to Washington, DC as needed.
  • Candidates with Washington, DC family law experience are strongly preferred, regardless of their current location.
  • We are seeking someone who can begin as soon as possible.
