Job Description:

Position Summary

Miller Electric is seeking a Manufacturing Process Technician specializing in Through-Hole Assembly, Fixture Design, and Process Monitoring. You will be the technical heartbeat, responsible for ensuring that every board meeting our high-power specifications is processed with absolute consistency. This role blends traditional manufacturing with modern technology-utilizing CAD and 3D printing to create custom tooling while managing the thermal profiles and maintenance of our specialized equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thermal Profiling: Perform individual assembly profiling for both Wave and Selective Solder machines. Use thermocouples and data-loggers to ensure each unique PCB assembly reaches the precise temperature gradients required for high-quality solder joints that meet or exceed IPC-Class 2 requirements.
  • Process Monitoring: Actively monitor equipment performance and process stability. Track key variables across multiple processes to prevent defects before they occur.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Reliability: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) and emergency repairs on wave solder, selective solder, and conformal coating equipment. This includes cleaning solder pots, replacing nozzles, calibrating sensors, and maintaining supporting equipment to ensure 100% uptime.
  • Equipment Optimization: Set up and fine-tune Selective Solder and wave programs for complex, high-density boards, ensuring precision for every individual component.
  • Fixture Design & Rapid Prototyping: Use SolidWorks to design custom assembly fixtures. Utilize 3D printing technology to rapidly prototype and deploy shop-floor aids, reducing the lead time for custom tooling.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify root causes for solder defects or mechanical equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions through design or mechanical repairs.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) is preferred. However, we are committed to professional growth and will train the right person who demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to master electronics manufacturing.
  • CAD & Prototyping: Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D design software is required. Experience with 3D printing (Slicing software and printer operation) is highly desirable.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment. Experience with circuit board assembly equipment is a plus.
  • Technical Monitoring: Ability to interpret thermal profiles and adjust machine parameters to meet IPC-A-610 Class 2 standards.
  • Education: Associates Degree in Electro-Mechanical, Electronics, Mechanical Design, or a related technical field is preferred but not required with equivalent hands-on experience.

Physical Requirements & Environment

  • Precision & Mobility: Ability to handle large electronic components, perform fine-motor tasks, and move around industrial machinery for maintenance.
  • Environment: Professional, climate-controlled manufacturing setting. Requires adherence to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and PPE safety protocols.
