Job Description

Company background

Swarmbotics AI is a low-cost, swarm robotics company for industry and defense. We see a world of ubiquitous low-cost robots transforming almost all aspects of society, but we see an urgent need in the defense industry. We focus on building swarms of robots that incorporate a low-cost BOM, an autonomous stack optimized for off the shelf components, and a global planner that enables swarm capabilities for groups of robots to accomplish sophisticated tasks.

Our first product is a defense application building Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs), collectively termed - Attritable, Networked, Tactical Swarm (ANTS). Each UGV in ANTS is an independently-tasked, attritable robot designed for on-demand and autonomous mobility. When operating as a swarm, ANTS is capable of executing more advanced and coordinated, high-level capabilities across a battlespace. ANTS will help solve some of the DoD’s biggest problems that will save lives and increase defense capabilities.

Position description

Swarmbotics is looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Technician to build, test, and deliver our autonomous ground robots from our Phoenix production floor. This role will perform end-to-end assembly of complex electromechanical products, working from drawings, work instructions, and BOMs to deliver quality hardware on a predictable cadence. You’ll perform mechanical assembly, electrical integration, harness work, sub-assembly, final integration, and station-level functional checks across the production line. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining unit traceability through serial numbers, torque records, and calibration records on every robot that ships. Additionally, this role will help stand up new fixtures, jigs, and station layouts as the line scales and as product revisions roll. This role will work closely with hardware, embedded, and systems engineering to surface defects early, redline work instructions when needed, and turn one-off builds into a stable production process.

Required qualifications

  • 5-7 years of hands-on assembly experience building complex electromechanical products
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and indented BOMs
  • Hands-on experience with calibrated torque tools and torque traceability practices
  • Experience working at an ESD-controlled bench with proper electronics handling discipline
  • Experience with harness work, including crimping, terminating, and continuity testing
  • Experience with mechanical assembly techniques including press-fits, gasketing, threaded inserts, and fastener preload
  • Experience running power-on functional checks against a written test procedure on embedded systems
  • Strong commitment to documentation, work instruction redlines, and unit traceability
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Comfort working in the high-paced, fluid environment of a tech startup
  • Excitement about contributing to the defense of the United States and its allies
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance
  • Ability to relocate to Phoenix, AZ

Preferred qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or military technical training in a relevant field
  • Prior experience as a build, line, or new-product-introduction technician at a hardware startup
  • Experience with transducerized electric drivers and networked torque-data capture
  • Experience flashing firmware and bringing up Linux-based embedded compute platforms
  • Familiarity with vehicle bus diagnostics and bench-level telemetry
  • Experience using an ERP, MES, or PLM system for kit pulls, traveler sign-offs, and serialized unit tracking
  • Experience with lean production practices and structured workplace organization
  • IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, or equivalent crimp and harness certification
  • Forklift, pallet jack, or material-handling experience
  • Active U.S. security clearance
