Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

Graduate from high school or have a general education degree.

Four to five years of related experience and/or training.

Language Skills:

Read and interpret procedures, policies, and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Write routine reports and correspondence.

Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, staff, and the public.

Mathematical Skills:

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.

Interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Alaska driver’s license.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

Speak the Iñupiaq language.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of flooring, doorframes, doors, window frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, hardware, and similar structural elements in District-owned facilities.

Determine which repair jobs should be performed by staff and contractors and advise the supervisor accordingly.

Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase.

Estimate costs of repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead.

Examine District facilities regularly for purposes of preventative maintenance.

Adhere to all District policies and regulations.

Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
