Job Description

Canopy seeks a marketing and communications leader to establish market positioning and expand reach for the Midwest's leading agroforestry and perennial land management company. This role will establish Canopy as the definitive category leader in agroforestry solutions while executing initiatives to support significant growth objectives across all business units. This position will lead internal and external marketing and communication initiatives, requiring someone who is adept at both strategic leadership and hands-on execution.

Brand Positioning

  • Establish Canopy as a thought leader in perennial land management and agroforestry
  • Conduct competitive and market research to identify differentiation opportunities and sharpen the company's positioning narrative for Canopy’s products and services
  • Develop audience-specific messaging based on compelling value propositions for key target segments including conversion-focused materials
  • Define and maintain a consistent brand identity, voice, and visual standards for internal and external audiences
  • Partner with leadership to ensure brand consistency as new products, services, or initiatives are brought to market

Digital Marketing & Content Strategy

  • Own and execute an integrated digital marketing strategy spanning website, email, SEO/SEM, and social media
  • Optimize digital presence to showcase integrated services, drive conversions, and strengthen market position
  • Work with internal teams and external vendors to manage a brand asset library
  • Develop and execute social media strategy with targeted growth objectives

Market Activation

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and leadership to transform internal expertise into externally facing content and campaigns
  • Develop case studies and client testimonials that demonstrate measurable outcomes
  • Monitor and report on marketing campaigns and channel performance
  • Leverage engagement with community partners for network amplification

Communications:

  • Manage internal and external communications strategy
  • Lead  internal communications development include an internal podcast and other communications initiatives that align leadership & company teams
  • Serve as the primary liaison with advertisers, PR contacts, agencies, or freelancers to develop media relationships
  • Support executive and leadership communications, including presentations, talking points, and key message development

Requirements

  • 6+ years integrated marketing experience spanning brand strategy, communications, and content development
  • Demonstrated success developing audience-specific messaging that drives lead generation and brand awareness
  • Track record establishing thought leadership positioning for companies
  • Comfort working independently and with diverse, remote teams
  • Experience writing and editing both internal and external communications for a range of audiences
  • Hands on experience with digital marketing, including content creation and performance tracking
  • Experience working with graphic design to support website development, print materials and collateral creation
  • Experience cultivating relationships with brand ambassadors and partners to extend brand reach
  • Experience developing content independently and collaborating with content partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in sustainability, agriculture, agroforestry, or science-based industries strongly preferred 
  • Ability to translate agricultural/environmental concepts for diverse audiences
  • Track record of successful partnerships and co-marketing initiatives
  • Experience building marketing functions in growth-stage companies
  • Understanding of science-informed practices in agriculture/sustainability
  • Basic graphic design proficiency (Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace) to support day-to-day content needs
