Job Description

The Massage Therapist is responsible for providing high-quality therapeutic massage services to clients to promote relaxation, relieve pain, reduce stress, and support overall wellness. This role involves assessing client needs, developing customized treatment plans, and delivering safe and effective massage techniques in a professional, welcoming environment. The Massage Therapist maintains compliance with all licensing, safety, and sanitation standards while delivering exceptional client care.

Responsibilities and Duties

Conduct client consultations to assess medical history, physical condition, and treatment goals.

Develop and implement customized massage therapy treatment plans.

Perform a variety of massage techniques, such as Swedish, deep tissue, sports, prenatal, or therapeutic massage, based on client needs.

Monitor client comfort and adjust pressure or techniques as necessary during sessions.

Educate clients on the benefits of massage therapy and provide recommendations for ongoing care or wellness practices.

Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including treatment notes and progress updates.

Ensure treatment rooms, equipment, and linens are clean, sanitized, and properly prepared.

Adhere to all professional, ethical, health, and safety standards, including state licensing requirements.

Promote a positive, professional, and relaxing environment for all clients.

Collaborate with other wellness or healthcare professionals when appropriate.

Manage scheduling, appointment confirmations, and client inquiries as required.

Participate in continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current with industry best practices.

Education

Completion of an accredited or state‑approved Massage Therapy program is required.

Experience

1-2 years of hands‑on massage therapy experience in a clinical, spa, wellness, or healthcare setting is preferred.

Licensure

Must hold an active, unrestricted Massage Therapist license in the state of practice (Virginia Board of Nursing and/or West Virginia Massage Therapy Licensure Board).

BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications

Knowledge of massage therapy services for adult clients and children in infant massage instruction, with the ability to assess client needs and apply age‑appropriate techniques.

Understanding of physical and developmental needs across the lifespan.

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse educational, social, and economic backgrounds regarding the benefits of massage therapy.
