Job Overview Reporting to the Procurement & Materials Manager, the Material Coordinator provides project-level materials coordination and execution support for a large-scale transmission construction project located in the North Central Region of the United States. The project involves multiple structure types, wire types, multiple laydown yards, and dedicated assembly areas.
The Material Coordinator is responsible for coordinating material receipt, storage, tracking, staging, and delivery to ensure uninterrupted field execution. This role works closely with Construction Coordinators, Project Coordinators, and Quality Coordinators to ensure materials are available, compliant, traceable, and aligned with construction sequencing, while adhering to Company Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems.
This role does not own procurement strategy, purchasing authority, or commercial negotiations, which remain the responsibility of the Materials Manager and Procurement teams.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
MATERIALS COORDINATION & FIELD EXECUTION SUPPORT
- Coordinate receipt, handling, storage, and distribution of project materials across multiple laydown yards and assembly areas
- Support material staging and sequencing to align with construction schedules, crew needs, and structure installation plans
- Coordinate delivery of materials to active workfronts in collaboration with Construction Coordinators and field supervision
- Monitor material availability and proactively identify shortages, misallocations, or delivery conflicts that may impact execution
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT & MATERIAL TRACEABILITY
- Maintain accurate material inventories to prevent shortages, excess inventory, or material loss
- Track material movement between laydown yards, assembly areas, and workfronts using approved systems and logs
- Support material traceability requirements, including heat numbers, batch tracking, certifications, and compliance documentation, as required by Contract and Quality standards
- Coordinate with the Quality Coordinator to ensure material documentation supports inspection, acceptance, and turnover requirements
DELIVERY, LOGISTICS & VENDOR INTERFACE
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordination of material deliveries in alignment with procurement and construction plans
- Coordinate with logistics providers, approved vendors, and internal SCM teams to support timely delivery and proper material handling
- Maintain effective working relationships with vendors to resolve delivery, packaging, or documentation issues
- Support vendor-managed inventory processes where applicable, without assuming procurement authority
SYSTEMS, REPORTING & COORDINATION
- Utilize approved SCM, inventory, and project systems to track material status, quantities, and delivery milestones
- Provide accurate material status updates to the Materials Manager and Project Coordination team
- Support material-related inputs to project reporting, look-ahead planning, and schedule updates
- Ensure all material activities align with the purchasing strategy and procurement plan established by the Materials Manager
COMPLIANCE, PROCEDURES & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Ensure material handling, storage, and documentation comply with Company standards, Contract requirements, and applicable regulations
- Maintain project-specific logs for specialty tools, equipment, and material certifications as required
- Promote adherence to SCM procedures and educate project teams on material request, handling, and documentation protocols
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in material flow, yard organization, storage efficiency, and coordination practices
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma required; certificate or diploma in Materials Management, Supply Chain, or a related discipline is considered an asset
- 3–5 years of experience in materials coordination, logistics, or supply chain roles supporting construction or infrastructure projects
- Experience supporting large-scale linear infrastructure projects, including transmission lines, substations, or similar corridor-based construction, is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with construction material types, laydown management, and field logistics environments
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage material flow across multiple yards and workfronts
- Proficiency in inventory tracking systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to interpret bills of materials, packing lists, drawings, and delivery schedules
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across construction, project, quality, and supply chain teams
- Willingness and ability to work in remote project locations, embedded with operational teams
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
ADDITIONAL DETAILSThis position requires candidates to:
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States or able to obtain and maintain U.S. work authorization
- Successfully complete pre-employment and site-specific drug and alcohol testing
- Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Complete background screening and criminal record checks as required
- This is a site-based role operating on a rotational schedule. The anticipated rotation is six (6) weeks on / one (1) week off, working six (6) days on and one (1) day off (Sundays), with twelve (12) hour workdays. Rotation and schedule are subject to project needs and construction sequencing, and flexibility to adjust during critical phases is required.
