Job Description
Job Title: Mechanic Assistant
Reports To: Shop Manager
Location: 5575 Conner, Detroit, MI 48213
Job Type: Full Time, Monday-Friday
Pay Range: $16-$20 an hour, based on experience
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine servicing, including oil changes, filter replacements, and checking/filling all vital fluids.
- Help diagnose mechanical issues and assist in troubleshooting problems under the guidance of lead mechanic.
- Mechanical Support: Assist senior technicians with complex repairs on brake systems, suspensions, drivetrains, and engines.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct multi-point safety checks (PMIs) and help prepare vehicles for annual state or DOT inspections.
- Emergency Response: Assist with road calls and field repairs for disabled vehicles.
- Shop Maintenance: Maintain an organized, safe workspace and manage inventory of parts and tools.
- Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and detailed vehicle maintenance and repair records.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive or diesel repair is a plus.
- License: Valid driver's license with a clean record; must be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements if required.
- Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand/power tools.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift at least 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
- Candidates must possess a personal toolbox with standard hand tools.
