DESCRIPTION

Abernethy Contracting is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in the Charlotte area. If you have real experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and take safety seriously, this is right up your alley. The ideal candidate will enjoy solving problems, working as part of a team and working towards a common goal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Conduct preventive maintenance on various types and brands of heavy construction equipment.
Work on heavy equipment.
Perform DOT Safety Inspections.
Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects.
Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records.
Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

Experience working on various brands and types of heavy equipment.
Diesel mechanic: 2 plus years (Preferred)
Must be able to convey information by phone and in-person; and effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations, which may include customers, vendors, and/or other employees.
Basic math skills required and must be able to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple projects/tasks
Must be able to work Monday through Friday, as well as Saturdays, based on operational needs.
Must pass a pre-employment background screening.
