Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Abernethy Contracting is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in the Charlotte area.  If you have real experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and take safety seriously, this is right up your alley.  The ideal candidate will enjoy solving problems, working as part of a team and working towards a common goal.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Conduct preventive maintenance on various types and brands of heavy construction equipment.
  • Work on heavy equipment.
  • Perform DOT Safety Inspections.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working on various brands and types of heavy equipment.
  • Diesel mechanic: 2 plus years (Preferred)
  • Must be able to convey information by phone and in-person; and effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations, which may include customers, vendors, and/or other employees.
  • Basic math skills required and must be able to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple projects/tasks
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday, as well as Saturdays, based on operational needs.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background screening.
