Job Description

If you're mechanically inclined, enjoy solving different problems every day, and don't want to spend your career working in the same shop or facility, this job offers something different. As a Mechanic & Maintenance Technician on Adak Island, you'll keep vehicles, equipment, building systems, and facilities operating safely in one of Alaska's most distinctive remote environments. You'll work a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off rotation, with housing, round-trip airfare from Anchorage, and a company vehicle provided while onsite.

What you can expect from us

  • Competitive Pay: $32.00 +
  • Strong Family Benefits: Access to employer-sponsored medical insurance and 100% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for employees and eligible dependents.
  • Housing and Travel Provided: Employer-provided housing is available while working on Adak, and round-trip airfare between Anchorage and Adak is provided for the rotation.
  • Retirement Support: 401(k) with employer matching up to 4%.
  • Paid Time Off: 13 paid holidays and 7 days paid time off granted at time of hire and then annually.

Where and How You'll Work

  • Work Location: Based onsite on Adak Island, Alaska one of the last frontiers in the US.
  • Schedule: Two weeks on, two weeks off with flexibility to work longer rotations to meet operational requirements.
  • Work Environment: Work takes place across multiple island facilities and may include hotels, mechanical spaces, vehicles, equipment, and outdoor work areas.
  • Variety: This is a true generalist maintenance role. One day may involve building a system repair, another a vehicle issue, preventative maintenance, or troubleshooting equipment.
  • Remote Conditions: Candidates should be comfortable working independently in a remote environment where weather, logistics, and available resources may require flexibility and practical problem-solving.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and repair building systems, equipment, machinery, and vehicles across Aleut Ventures operations on Adak.
  • Perform general plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and facilities repairs to keep the Adak Inn and other assigned locations safe and functional.
  • Inspect equipment and building systems, identify problems, troubleshoot failures, and complete or recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance on vehicles, engines, machinery, and facility systems to keep equipment operating reliably.
  • Diagnose vehicle and engine performance issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Build, assemble, repair, clean, and lubricate machinery and components as needed.
  • Respond to changing maintenance priorities across the island and help resolve issues efficiently with the tools and resources available.
  • Work as part of Adak's "One Team" model by cross-training in critical areas and stepping in wherever needed to support other Aleut Ventures operations, in addition to your primary maintenance and repair work.

Who We're Looking For

  • At least 5 years of related mechanical, maintenance, facilities, or equipment-repair experience.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including weekends and holiday.

Even Better if You Have

  • Five or more years of progressive diesel mechanic, automotive, equipment-maintenance, or related mechanical experience.
  • Experience performing facilities maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or general building systems.
  • Prior military experience in maintenance, mechanics, engineering, logistics, facilities, transportation, or similar technical operations
