Job Description
MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design and Test Engineer on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. This is a hands-on role that spans the full hardware lifecycle: CAD design, structural and thermal analysis, fabrication coordination, and test execution. Your work will directly support International Space Station (ISS) operations and NASA's next-generation exploration programs including Artemis and Gateway.
A typical day may involve refining a test fixture design in Creo, performing dimensional and thermal expansion analysis, and coordinating fabrication details with the machine shop. You will also set up and monitor hardware tests, including thermal-vacuum and pressure system testing, working alongside technicians and quality personnel. The role regularly includes presenting at design reviews, supporting peer reviews, and occasionally working extended shifts during multi-day test campaigns. Expect a mix of desk and lab work with direct access to flight-equivalent hardware.
What We Are Looking For
Requirements:
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5–10 years of related experience
- 2–5 years of hands-on design experience
- 1–5 years of experience using solid modeling CAD software (Creo preferred)
- Ability to produce engineering drawings and perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis, including thermal effects and to support design with standard hand calculations for fit, function, and structural strength.
- Working knowledge of machine shop processes and familiarity with structural and thermal analysis in hardware development
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to support shift work during extended test operations
Preferences:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering school
- Experience testing flight or space hardware
- Proficiency with Creo CAD software
- Experience with vacuum chambers, pumps, and pressure systems
- Extensive design experience
- Knowledge of thermal analysis methods
Benefits and Perks
We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, company paid life and disability insurance, paid time off, and 401(k). You'll also enjoy a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off, when applicable), and a workplace where you can see the direct impact of your engineering on human spaceflight.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
