Engineer II: $82,000 - $94,000

Engineer III: $90,000 - $103,000

Senior Engineer: $97,000 - $112,000

Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and alignment with role expectations.

JOB SUMMARY

As a Mechanical Design Engineer- Electromechanical Systems in Burnsville, MN, you will:

  • Own all mechanical design activities for a product line redesign effort Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
  • Interpret customer specifications, site requirements, and technical constraints to create accurate, manufacturable solutions
  • Define mechanical specifications and component layouts for power distribution equipment (switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, docking stations)
  • Produce detailed technical documentation supporting manufacturing, testing, certification, and customer requests
  • Collaborate with SMEs, cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the project
  • Ensure designs meet safety, manufacturability, and relevant code/standard requirements
  • Support certification and compliance activities (UL 1008, UL 508, UL 1640, etc.)
  • Maintain mechanical documentation, BOMs, and revisions within ERP/PLM/Vault systems
  • Contribute to process improvements, modularization, and design standardization initiatives
  • Participate in design reviews, prototyping sessions, and on-site engineering discussions in Faribault, MN (travel required)
  • Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners across the Minneapolis-St.Paul Metro
  • Contribute to projects that impact communities in Burnsville, Savage, Apple Valley, Bloomington, Eagan, Lakeville, and Prior Lake, and the greater Twin Cities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in mechanical design for custom-engineered power distribution or electromechanical systems 
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings
  • Experience interpreting customer specifications and site requirements to develop mechanical solutions
  • Knowledge of mechanical design best practices, including safety, manufacturability, and compliance
  • Experience creating technical documentation to support manufacturing, testing, and certification
  • Experience with switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, or related power distribution equipment Familiarity with UL standards such as UL 1008, UL 508, and UL 1640
  • Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering vault systems for managing design documentation and BOMs
  • Background in process improvement, modularization, or design automation
  • Project management experience, including coordinating cross-functional teams and tracking deliverables, strongly preferred
