This role is an Axle Housing Design Engineer in the Drivetrain Castings Component Team. Tasks will be directed by a Senior Engineer on the team and include concept modeling, stress & life analysis, assessing part nonconformance risk, amongst others.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support Senior Engineer by completing design tasks.
- Potential for additional responsibility depending on experience and demonstrated success in the role.
- Develop and modify mechanical designs using Creo, ensuring accuracy and adherence to engineering standards.
- Apply basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles to support design intent and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with engineers, suppliers, and internal partners to support design development and resolve technical issues.
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback to improve product quality and performance.
- Support analysis activities, including FEA using Creo Simulate, to validate design integrity (as applicable).
- Assist in the design and development of steel or iron cast components, considering manufacturing processes and constraints.
- Contribute to APQP activities to support product quality and successful production launches.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and provide practical engineering support during prototyping and testing phases.
- Manage individual tasks and deliverables to meet project timelines and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project goals and technical requirements.
- Demonstrate initiative by proactively identifying opportunities for design improvements and process enhancements.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND 2-4 years’ of relevant work experience
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Proficient in Creo
- Understands basic geometric tolerancing
- Proficient in Creo Simulate FEA
- Experience in steel or iron casting design
- APQP knowledge
- Practical / hands-on experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude
SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Strong initiative
- Effective verbal & written communicator
- Can manage individual tasks to meet deadlines
- Open to input & feedback from others
- Works well with other engineers, suppliers, and internal process partners
- Eagerness to learn new things
