A growing advanced technology organization is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the detailed design, packaging, and integration of high-performance power and thermal systems. This role operates within a multidisciplinary engineering environment focused on complex hardware development for demanding applications. The ideal candidate has experience designing sophisticated mechanical hardware, including rotating equipment, pressure-containing components, piping systems, and thermal-mechanical assemblies, and thrives in a collaborative, performance-driven setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed, clean-sheet mechanical design of power system hardware, including structural components and system packaging
- Design piping layouts, manifolds, and process flow configurations
- Develop pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and thermal management components
- Create and maintain high-quality 3D CAD models and production drawings with proper GD&T
- Integrate mechanical systems with thermal, controls, and systems engineering disciplines
- Support design and development of rotating machinery such as pumps, turbines, compressors, and auxiliary equipment
- Coordinate with suppliers, including preparing technical specifications, reviewing drawings, and supporting component qualification
- Apply additive manufacturing methods where appropriate for complex geometries and integrated thermal-structural designs
- Select materials for high-temperature and high-reliability environments, considering fatigue, creep, corrosion, and manufacturability
- Perform basic to intermediate stress and thermal analyses to support design decisions
- Support hardware builds, test activities, and iterative design improvements
- Develop specifications and standard work documentation aligned with system-level objectives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience in aerospace, defense, energy, or other regulated industries
- Proficiency with modern 3D CAD tools (e.g., NX, Creo, CATIA, SolidWorks)
- Strong understanding of GD&T and technical drawing standards
- Experience with rotating machinery, pressure systems, heat exchangers, and piping layouts
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in advanced power or energy systems
- Familiarity with metal additive manufacturing and design-for-additive principles
- Knowledge of pressure vessel codes and high-reliability design standards
- Experience designing for extreme operating environments
