Position Summary

In this role, you will work with all Banner's product categories while creating and reading drawings of parts made by different manufacturing methods. You will learn what it takes to ensure parts are successful in their intended environment and understand their requirements within the product.

Internship is located at our Brooklyn Park, MN location. The internship is working full-time hours during summer months (June, July, and August) with the possibility of extending part-time during the school year.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Performs qualification tests to ensure conformance to specifications, and evaluating designs through virtual, stress, thermal, and tolerance analysis.
  • Resolves part and process issues by working with production engineering, manufacturing department, and suppliers.
  • Works with global suppliers on qualifying mechanical parts made from a variety of processes including injection molding, machining, metal-forming, and die -casting.
  • Integrate design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) processes to reduce product cost.
  • Manage product documentation including Bills of Materials (BOMs), design verification reports, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and process and design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs)
  • Adhere to compliance regulations established by various agencies (CE, UL, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required

  • Currently attending a credited Institution working on a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience using solid modeling tools (Solidworks, Creo, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced design/manufacturing techniques

Preferred

  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Experience in product design for industrial applications
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and statistical analysis
  • Experience with assembly techniques including ultrasonic welding, insert molding, chip on board (COB), surface mount technology (SMT) and epoxy encapsulation
