Mechanical Engineering Technician I – Franklin Lakes, NJ
Pay Rate: $30.00 – $35.00/hour
Schedule: Onsite, 5 days per week
Position Overview
Reporting to the Sr. Lab Manager, the Mechanical Engineering Technician I is responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing bench-level engineering tests and research experiments. This role supports the development of new products by evaluating the feasibility of concepts and technologies and assisting in transferring those technologies into product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently plan and perform experiments to support product and technology feasibility
- Analyze experimental data and develop conclusions on product performance and viability
- Prepare and present findings to R&D management and cross-functional teams
- Generate technical reports outlining results and development implications
- Maintain laboratory equipment to support testing and compliance requirements
- Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with engineering teams to support experimental design and product testing
- Participate in product development and project teams as needed
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with laboratory testing and experimental analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Strong communication and technical reporting skills

- Develop test equipment for manufacturing or engineering purposes
- Providing engineering support to the manufacturing engineering team
- Assemble custom test equipment or fixtures for new test
- Determine test procedures and design of special test equipment
- Scale engineering drawings using computer
- Using electronic and mechanical test equipment
- Writing test reports based on test data and technician notes
- Interpreting engineering drawings for production personnel
- Perform maintenance of test equipment and facility equipment
- Assemble test process with supervision from design engineers or supervising test engineer
- Perform troubleshooting and repair of test equipment
- Preparing test vehicles for testing
- Execute automated test cases using validated test systems
- Maintain test equipment and tools
- Maintaining and solving test equipment problems
- Run complex test setups using high accuracy test equipment
- Maintaining test equipment to accomplish required tests
- Maintain test-related new product engineering laboratory documentation in database environment
- Support the design engineering group
- Provide technical engineering input/support
