Job Description
SCMI1has an exciting opportunity for a MechanicalEngineering Technician for Propulsion, Power and Diesel Engine Systems as part of the Diesel Readiness System (DRS) Support Program.DRS is the current U.S. Navy program for providing diesel condition-based maintenance designed to support the fleet operations. The objective of DRS is to improve and sustain the operational availability of U.S. Navy fleet diesel engines.NSWCPD Codes 421 and 422 are responsible for DRS Program execution.Location:Vast majority of work will be performed remotely. Occasional limited travel may be required to CONUS and OCONUS Naval facilities and ship new construction yard facilities.
Job Description/Responsibilities:
- The DRS Program is applicable to the following ship classes and equipment:
- LSD 41/49 Class MPDEs and SSDGs; LPD 17 Class MPDEs and SSDGs; LHD 8/LHA 6 SSDGs; LCS 1 and 2 MPDEs and SSDGs; LPD 17 Flight II MPDEs and SSDGs
- MCM 1 Class MPDEs and SSDGs
- FFG 62 Class SSDGs
- Medium Landing Ship (LSM) Propulsion Engines and Diesel Generators
- CVN EDGs; Submarine EDGs
- Large Unmanned Surface Vessel Diesel Generators
- Diesel Readiness System (Drs) Engineering, Technical and Training Support:
- Review, maintain, correct and input data to all modules of the Shipboard Automated Maintenance Manager (SAMM).
- Review and analyze Diesel Engine Performance Analysis (DEPA) data. Provide trends and result with recommendations for corrective actions to TYCOM and ships force via monthly and event driven reports.
- Provide lead In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) with a quarterly DRS Report that shows reliability metrics for DRS modules reporting compliance and clearly illustrate/trend the problems, strengths, and weaknesses of each ships’ Diesel Readiness Program.
- Provide shipboard technical oversight for diesel engine and associated systems.
- Conduct forensic analysis of failed diesel engines and diesel engine components to determine the root cause(s) of failure(s) and submit written reports of findings (to include recommendations for additional testing and/or corrective actions).
- Provide on-site technical support personnel to perform US Navy propulsion and power generation direct fleet support and Distance Support functions and to support periodic equipment assessments, inspections, grooms and shipboard testing evolutions.
- Provide shipboard technical support for alterations, modifications and upgrades to US Navy propulsion and power generation systems and equipment.
- ICON Doctor equipment failure analysis, maintenance, repair, and procurement of materials incidental to these functions.
- Develop and implement training curriculum and exams based upon current fleet issues/events, technical documents, maintenance standards, personnel qualification standards (PQS) and PMS requirements.
- Diesel Readiness System (DRS) Fluid Quality Monitoring Technical Support:
- Provide technical support for US Navy DRS Lube Oil, Fuel Oil, and Jacket Water Fluid Quality Management programs.Update technical documentation, develop/revise specifications development/revision, perform analysis and provide recommendations, provide shipboard and shore side training, perform failure analysis and failure investigations, and evaluate test kits along with test kit and sample bottle procurement.
- Propulsion, Power Systems And Diesel Engines - Engineering and Administrative Support:
- Provide DRS engineering and program support for Propulsion, Power and Diesel Engines Systems program reviews, technical meetings and Navy Owner’s Group meetings. As required by the Government, organize, manage and facilitate meetings. This responsibility includes all aspects of meeting preparation, execution and follow-up.
- Meeting logistics: handling all logistical arrangements, such as scheduling, venue selection and coordination of necessary equipment, technology and materials.
- Content and agenda: collaborating with the Government to develop meeting agendas, prepare all required presentation materials and distribute meeting materials to participants in a timely manner.
- Communication: serving as the primary point of contact for all meeting participants, managing invitations and sending reminders and post-meeting summaries.
- Documentation: recording and preparing accurate meeting minutes, documenting action items and ensuring their distribution to all relevant parties.
- Provide assistance with the development and tracking of DRS Plan of Action and Milestones (POAMs) for related Propulsion, Power and Diesel Engines Systems programs and projects.
- Propulsion, Power And Diesel Engines Systems – Technical & Logistics Documentation Support:
- Provide DRS support in the area of development and updating of Propulsion, Power and Diesel Engines Systems technical and ILS documentation.
- Technical and logistics documentation to be updated includes but is not limited to Technical Manuals, Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS), Depot Level Maintenance Standards (MS), Technical Repair Standards (TRS), Process Control Procedures, Class Standard Work Templates, PMS (MIPs & MRCs), EOSS, and APLs.
- Provide the technical support necessary to incorporate changes to this documentationresulting from feedbacks, advisories, technical bulletins, Technical Warrant Holder (TWH) guidance, hardware configuration changes resulting from alteration installations, and other situations that arise which require the updating of technical and logistics support documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain security clearance and clearing necessary background checks/assessments as required. Active high-level Security Clearance will be required, and current Security Clearance is desired.
- Minimum Education: HS diploma or GED
- Minimum Work Experience: 5 years of US Navy Engineman experience in the areas of diesel propulsion and power generating systems. Experience should include prior certification as a US Navy Fleet Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI).
- Personnel should have experience with Shipboard Automated Maintenance Manager (SAMM), conducting DOCTOR Diesel engine performance analyses (DEPAs), reviewing DOCTOR data and providing technical recommendations to correct out-of–parameter conditions.
