Job Description

Mechanical Project Engineer – On-site

Location: Phoenix, AZEmployment Type: Full-time, On-siteExperience Level: Senior – 8+ Years, PE Required

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer (PE) with a proven track record of delivering high-quality building systems for commercial and mixed-use projects. This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll own calculations, system layouts, code compliance, and field decisions with minimal oversight.

You’ll collaborate closely with project managers, mentor junior designers, and guide design execution for projects spanning grocery, retail, industrial, multifamily, senior living, restaurants, and more. This is the perfect opportunity for a seasoned mechanical engineer who thrives in a collaborative yet “own-your-work” environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all required mechanical engineering calculations, ensuring compliance with codes, policies, and standards.

  • Design and layout mechanical systems (HVAC, utilities, equipment selection) and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Lead design reviews for function, clearances, and constructability—resolving conflicts early.

  • Estimate design budgets and man-hours, partnering with PM/PE for project scope, phasing, and scheduling.

  • Provide technical leadership, guiding and mentoring junior designers (I, II, III) to maintain project quality and timelines.

  • Interface directly with clients to educate them on design requirements and project expectations.

  • Review and approve engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and code compliance.

  • Conduct QA/QC reviews, collaborating with technical managers as needed.

  • Manage fast-paced deadlines without compromising design quality or project integrity.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (required).

  • Active PE license (required).

  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in building systems design.

  • Demonstrated expertise in discipline-specific codes, building codes, and industry standards.

  • Proficiency in REVIT, mechanical engineering modeling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Exceptional skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical decision-making.

  • Client-facing communication skills with the ability to explain design decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong time-management and leadership abilities to guide teams and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • Equipment selection experience across commercial and industrial building systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel resources—motivating, developing, and directing teams.

  • Experience with multi-sector projects: retail, grocery, power centers, multifamily, industrial, senior living, restaurant, and convenience developments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary + sign-on bonus.

  • Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.

  • Generous PTO policy (we believe in real vacation time!).

  • 401(k) with company match – yes, it’s strong.

  • Superior health benefits for you, your family, and your pets.

  • 100% company-paid license renewals and professional memberships.

  • Tuition reimbursement and continued-education support with lunch-and-learns and industry conference attendance.

  • Casual, “uncorporate” culture – jeans and Hey Dudes welcome.

  • Fully staffed Permitting Department to streamline jurisdiction approvals.

  • Expert in-house Designers & CA department to keep your projects moving despite weather or obstacles.

  • Charity events, employee discounts, and flexible work perks.

  • Hybrid work options available based on project needs.

Why Join This Team

This firm brings projects to life that shape communities—from big-box retail and grocery stores to multi-family residences and senior living centers. You’ll be supported by specialists in MEP, Fire Protection, and Structural, plus a Licensing Specialist who handles all the tedious paperwork so you can focus on the work you love.
