Job Description

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant provides direct clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and patients. This role is responsible for patient intake, clinical procedures, documentation, test processing, referrals, and maintaining a safe, clean, and well-equipped clinical environment. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care

  • Room patients by obtaining and documenting vital signs, reason for visit, symptoms, frequency, and severity.
  • Accurately document required patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Administer injections and immunizations as ordered by the provider.
  • Assist providers with medical procedures as needed.
  • Obtain and document all patient information required to meet regulatory and clinical obligations.
  • Track and follow up on results for all ordered tests.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (POCT) and required quality control procedures.

Patient Communication & Clinical Coordination

  • Use the EMR and assigned task lists to complete patient visits, requests, and follow-up activities.
  • Communicate with patients regarding questions, concerns, laboratory results, prescriptions, referrals, and other clinical needs.
  • Provide patients with accurate and appropriate information while maintaining a professional and compassionate approach.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient records while protecting patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Process referrals accurately and appropriately.

Clinic Maintenance & Supply Management

  • Disinfect examination rooms between patients and clean patient care areas at the end of each day.
  • Assist with general clinic upkeep and maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Monitor clinical supplies and assist with ordering and inventory management.
  • Reprocess scopes and/or probes after successfully completing required competency training for specialty clinics.
  • Perform all required steps for instrument sterilization and safely operate autoclave equipment.

General Responsibilities

  • Remain calm, professional, and effective during emergencies and high-pressure situations.
  • Collaborate with providers and team members on ongoing projects and clinical initiatives.
  • Comply with all OSHA requirements, safety regulations, and applicable clinical policies and procedures.
  • Work at multiple clinic locations as required.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program or recognized certifying organization, such as NHA or AMCA, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of related medical assisting experience in a physician's office, clinic, or other clinical setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience with reprocessing, sterilization, and clinical procedures is highly preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in clinical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to follow established clinical, safety, and regulatory procedures.
  • Comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek assistance.
  • Ability to remain composed and responsive in emergency or high-pressure situations.
