Job Description
The Medical Assistant Coordinator is responsible for supporting daily clinical operations in the support of various value-based performance programs, ensuring efficient administrative workflows, and maintaining high standards of communication and documentation. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the capacity to coordinate effectively with patients, clinical staff, and medical support vendors. The ideal candidate is an experienced medical assistant with demonstrated proficiency in administrative and clinical support functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for coordinating patient care activities, follow-ups, and communication with medical supply vendors and home health agencies.
- Review medical records to identify and verify documentation that supports durable medial equipment orders and other provider directed medical orders.
- Accurately document patient encounters, communications, and care coordination tasks in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Prepare and manage written correspondence.
- Assist with developing and maintaining clinical workflows to support efficient operations.
- Review and update patient records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Perform hospital and emergency room discharge calls and schedule patients for follow-up visits
- Track and manage clinical tasks and follow-up actions with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel to maintain logs, tracking sheets, and quality control reports.
- Use Microsoft Teams to communicate with internal staff, coordinate schedules, and support team operations.
- Collaborate with providers, nurses, and administrative staff
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution.
- Medical Assistant certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is required.
- Two to three years related medical office experience.
- Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines
- General understanding and application of basic accounting principles
- PC proficiency
- Strong customer service skills
- Accurate data entry skills
- Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
- Knowledge of GE, EPIC or similar computerized billing system
- Medical terminology preferred
- CPR certification is required
Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographical location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/ training and other qualifications.
