Job Description
Valley Arthritis Care is seeking an experienced Medical Billing & Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and confident working through the full billing and collections process in a busy medical practice environment.
The Medical Billing & AR Specialist will help ensure claims are submitted accurately, payments are posted correctly, denials are worked promptly, and outstanding balances are followed up on with professionalism and persistence.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit clean claims to insurance carriers in a timely and accurate manner
- Review, research, and resolve claim denials and rejections
- Follow up on unpaid and underpaid claims
- Work accounts receivable reports and aging balances
- Post insurance payments, patient payments, adjustments, and denials
- Review EOBs, ERAs, and payer correspondence
- Verify claim status through payer portals and clearinghouse systems
- Identify billing errors and work with the appropriate team members to correct them
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and internal staff regarding billing questions
- Assist with patient statements, payment plans, and balance follow-up
- Maintain accurate documentation of all collection activity and claim follow-up
- Support month-end billing and AR reporting as needed
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, payer requirements, and practice policies
Qualifications
- Prior medical billing and accounts receivable experience required
- Experience with insurance follow-up, denials, appeals, and payment posting preferred
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, modifiers, EOBs, ERAs, and payer portals
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors quickly
- Excellent organization and follow-through
- Professional communication skills with patients, payers, and team members
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Rheumatology or specialty practice experience is a plus
- Experience with Tebra/Kareo or similar medical billing software is a plus
