Medical Billing Specialist
Great Lakes Medical Imaging (GLMI)
Reports to: Billing Manager
Location: GLMI Billing Office (Remote capability available)
Status: Non-Exempt
Pay: To determine our range, we consider as many of the following data points as are available to us: external market salary survey data, internal data in terms of comparable roles, and our budget for the position. What we have posted is our good faith estimate of what we expect to pay: $17–$22 per hour.
Position Overview
The Medical Billing Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement for services provided by GLMI. This position is responsible for identifying and correcting denied claims, following up with insurance carriers on unpaid accounts, reviewing insurance portals for patient responsibility, and supporting patients with billing-related questions.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, correct, and resubmit denied claims
- Follow up with insurance carriers regarding unpaid or unresolved claims
- Process real-time Medicaid claims through Epaces
- Review insurance carrier websites to determine patient out-of-pocket expenses
- Make outgoing calls to patients regarding financial responsibility prior to visits
- Review and interpret insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
- Answer incoming patient billing calls and process payments
- Prioritize workload to meet monthly productivity goals
- Adhere to companywide and interdepartmental policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by management

- Strong computer skills and ability to operate standard office equipment

- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- May lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a keyboard for extended periods
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients in person and over the phone
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office setting
- Ability to make decisions and think quickly
