Job Description

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Business and Financial Services Division in Helena.
This position prepares claims for Medicare and Medicaid services provided at the department facilities and performs accounts receivable functions for amounts collectable from Medicare, private insurance, and Medicaid. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining patient accounts and reconciling accounts with ledgers utilizing extensive knowledge of complex medical billing requirements and federal and state statutes and laws.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid benefits and eligibility.
Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply procedural rules regarding claims and statements.
Working knowledge of accounting methods and account receivable theory and practices.
Meet minimum qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Four years of work experience in accounting, billing, and collecting in the medical field.
Experience with medical terminology and coding.
Experience with Medicaid and Medicare billing required.
Other medical licenses/certifications may be considered as additional experience.
Other combinations of directly related education/experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Information
This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.
