Job Description

The Medical Director is responsible for all medical aspects of the program. The

medical director collaborates with the program director and the clinical outplacement coordinator to

ensure appropriateness of content and clinical experiences. The medical director ensures and

documents terminal competency of each student prior to completion of the program.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

Review and approval of the educational content of the program curriculum to certify its ongoing

appropriateness and medical accuracy,

Review and approval of the quality of medical instruction, supervision, and evaluation of the

students in all areas of the program,

Review and approval of the process of each student throughout the program, and assist in the

development of appropriate corrective measures when a student does not show adequate

progress,

Assurance of the competence of each graduate of the program in the cognitive, psychomotor,

and affective domains,

Responsibility for cooperative involvement with the program director,

Adequate controls to assure the quality of the delegated responsibilities.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Possess license(s) to practice medicine in each state where the program’s students are

participating in patient care,

  • Or maintain a formal relationship with an assistant medical director in the states where

the primary medical director does not have a license, 

  • Have experience and current knowledge of the emergency care of the sick and injured, 
  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine is preferred,
  • Be an active member of the local medical community and participate in professional activities related to out-of-hospital care.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

The delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care, including the proper care and transport of

patients, EMS medical direction, and quality improvement in out-of-hospital care,

The education of EMS professions, including professional, legislative, and regulatory issues,

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
