Medical Director – Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Oversight Location: Princeton, TexasWork Model: Hybrid (Onsite + Remote)Employment Type: Part-Time Contract (Independent Physician Consultant)Initial Contract Term: 3 YearsContract Start Date: Tentative April 28, 2026Contract End Date: September 30, 2029Renewal Options: Two (2) additional 1-year extensionsMonthly Commitment: ~8 hours per month direct engagementThe Medical Director will provide comprehensive clinical leadership, medical direction, and regulatory oversight for the Princeton Fire Department First Responder Organization (FRO).The Medical Director will oversee EMS operations including protocol development, clinical quality assurance, training programs, and regulatory compliance in accordance with Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) regulations and Texas Administrative Code.Princeton Fire Department provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) first responder services, while patient transport is handled by a contracted ambulance provider operating under separate medical direction.Key ResponsibilitiesEMS Medical Direction
- Provide online and offline medical control for Princeton Fire Department EMS personnel.
- Ensure 24/7 medical consultation availability for clinical issues not covered by standing protocols.
- Oversee clinical practice of EMTs and paramedics.
- Ensure compliance with state EMS regulations and medical protocols.
- Provide direct clinical consultation for complex patient care situations.
- Develop and maintain standing orders and EMS treatment protocols.
- Review and update protocols at least bi-annually.
- Promote evidence-based EMS practices.
- Design and implement a structured EMS Quality Improvement program.
- Conduct chart audits and patient care reviews using the electronic patient care reporting system.
- Submit annual EMS quality improvement report to the Fire Chief.
- Provide guidance for continuing education and certification programs for EMS personnel.
- Participate in EMS training sessions and clinical instruction.
- Assist with National Registry recertification and Texas certification compliance.
- Advise on EMS system operations and improvements.
- Maintain liaison with hospitals, physicians, and EMS agencies.
- Participate in EMS operational planning and system development.
- Provide medical direction for tactical medic programs supporting law enforcement operations.
- Support disaster response planning and mass casualty incident protocols.
- Participate in emergency planning within the City Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
- Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS)
- Texas Administrative Code (Title 22, Chapter 197)
- National EMS standards and best practices
- Board Certified in Emergency Medicine
- American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) OR
- American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
- Experience serving as EMS Medical Director or Associate Medical Director
- Experience working with EMTs and Paramedics
- Experience in pre-hospital emergency medical systems
- Active participation in Emergency Department clinical practice
- Experience in EMS training and education programs
- Experience developing EMS Quality Improvement programs
- Experience with tactical medical operations
- Experience working with municipal fire department EMS systems
- Familiarity with EMS dispatch and communications systems
- Maintain DEA registration if required for EMS pharmacy operations
- Knowledge of Texas EMS laws and regulatory framework
- Ability to provide written and oral presentations to city leadership and regulatory agencies
