Position Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in supporting the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients by performing technical laboratory testing on patient specimens. Working under the direction of a licensed Medical Technologist, this role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with professional laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and appropriate laboratory testing of patient specimens under supervision
- Report test results promptly and according to established laboratory procedures
- Adhere to quality control procedures, compliance regulations, and standard operating policies
- Assist in managing lab resources, instruments, and workflow for efficient operations
- Maintain safety standards while working with hazardous materials and patient specimens
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Required:
- Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (including those grandfathered in from CLA programs)
- Current licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technician in the state of Tennessee (required only for TN-based positions)
- Substitutions Allowed:
- Graduation from a military medical laboratory program
Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and instrumentation
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Ability to manage tasks independently and prioritize effectively
- Team-oriented mindset and ability to communicate across clinical departments
