Job Description
Medical assistant to perform clerical duties in a medical office including such functions as complete demographic and insurance registration, charge entry, scheduling patients and/or verifying insurance information. Clinically assist with triaging patient records, assist with patient medication authorizations/ appeals. Where the electronic system is in use, this position will utilize the system as documented in the department and/or FPI standard operating procedure and process; and other duties assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution. Special circumstances to consider an exception may include: 2 years of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field. Exemptions will be vetted by Human Resources Director and Department Director.
- Medical Assistant certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is required.
- Demonstrated skill in venipuncture.
- Graduation from an accredited training program (school) or 3-5 years of supervised work experience in a medical setting.
- Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines.
- CPR certification required.
- General understanding and application of basic accounting principles.
- PC proficiency.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Accurate data entry skills.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
