Supports the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of patient health information by maintaining complete and compliant medical records. Plays a vital behind-the-scenes role in ensuring providers and care teams have timely access to accurate documentation to support safe, high-quality patient care.

Job Description:

Position: Medical Records Technician

Location: Waterville, ME

Schedule: 40 hours per week

Shift: Days | Monday- Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

As a Medical Records Technician, you'll be an essential part of our Health Information team, ensuring medical records are accurate, secure, and accessible. Your work directly supports patient safety, compliance, and seamless care coordination across the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Abstracts, copies, and mails pertinent portions of medical records while ensuring patient confidentiality
  • Assembles, analyzes, and maintains complete medical records. Creates or reactivates retired/stored records
  • Files medical records accurately and promptly
  • Assists with reviewing requests for release of medical information for proper authorization as needed
  • Maintain and organize electronic health records (EHRs) and paper documents
  • Process patient admission and discharge records
  • Analyze patient records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with organizational guidelines
  • Perform regular audits and quality checks to ensure documentation standards are met
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage information with a high degree of accuracy
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Preferred knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience working with EHR systems and Microsoft programs
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
