Job Description
The Jack Byrne Center for Hospice & Palliative Care is a specialized, free-standing inpatient unit of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. We provide care to those suffering with serious, life-limiting illness. We work together to ease patient symptom burden and provide skilled, compassionate care to our patients, while supporting those who love them. As a fairly new unit (opened December of 2017) we are regularly assessing the care we provide to meet the needs of those in our community. The patient/nurse ratio is 4 to 1, or less, with nursing assistants on some shifts. We are a med/surg unit with some progressive care treatments, i.e., palliative sedation, Bipap, and high-flow. RN's are responsible for vascular access and phlebotomy on our unit. Teamwork is essential to the work we do.
Kind, clear communication and willingness to work well as a member of a high functioning team are essential to success on our unit. RN's who will thrive at the JBC are those who are interested in helping every patient live his or her life well, with meaning and purpose, doing what is most important as life draws to a close. We are a large, well-resourced palliative care team.
