Job Description

Medical Technologist (MT) / Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – Day Shift | West VirginiaPermanent & Full-Time Direct Hire12-Hour Shifts | 3 Shifts per WeekMultiple Openings Available

A hospital located in West Virginia, approximately one hour from Elkins, is seeking experienced Medical Technologists (MT) and Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) to join its laboratory team.

Multiple full-time openings are available. The primary schedule consists of three 12-hour day shifts per week, with the expectation that team members will be cross-trained and available to work other shifts as needed.

The hospital is seeking experienced laboratory professionals, with ASCP certification preferred. Medical Technologists are strongly preferred, although qualified MLT candidates may be considered.

Schedule

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
  • Day shift: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • 36 hours per week
  • Cross-training for other shifts required
  • Schedule flexibility is important based on department needs

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical laboratory testing accurately and efficiently according to established procedures.
  • Work as a laboratory generalist across multiple clinical laboratory areas.
  • Process, evaluate, and analyze patient specimens while maintaining proper specimen identification and handling.
  • Perform and verify laboratory testing according to established quality standards.
  • Review results for accuracy and identify abnormal, critical, or unexpected findings.
  • Perform quality control procedures and document corrective actions as required.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Communicate critical laboratory results promptly to the appropriate clinical team.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Prioritize testing according to clinical urgency and established turnaround-time requirements.
  • Assist with specimen processing and other laboratory workflow responsibilities.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain adequate laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Cross-train in additional laboratory areas and shifts to support department operations.
  • Work collaboratively with laboratory and clinical staff to support quality patient care.
  • Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree or education appropriate for Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) practice required.
  • ASCP certification preferred.
  • MT candidates strongly preferred.
  • Qualified MLT candidates may be considered.
  • Previous hospital laboratory experience strongly preferred.
  • Experienced candidates are preferred.
  • Generalist laboratory experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to laboratory quality and patient safety.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability and willingness to cross-train and work other shifts as needed.
  • Flexibility to support the laboratory's staffing and operational needs.
