Enter Job Description... The Medical Technologist (MT) at W.W. Hastings Hospital is responsible for performing a wide range of clinical laboratory tests and procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The role involves operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, analyzing specimens, ensuring accuracy of test results, and maintaining compliance with laboratory standards and safety protocols. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities " Perform clinical laboratory testing in areas such as chemistry, hematology, and blood bank following established laboratory procedures. " Operate and maintain chemistry analyzers, including Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Vitros systems, ensuring accurate and timely test results. " Conduct blood bank testing, including blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and preparation of blood products for transfusion. " Analyze and verify laboratory results, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and compliance with quality control standards. " Use Cerner Millennium Laboratory Information System to document, review, and report patient test results. " Follow quality assurance and laboratory safety protocols, including infection control and specimen handling procedures. " Work with pediatric and adult patient specimens, ensuring proper processing and testing. " Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and perform routine quality control checks. " Communicate critical test results to physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff promptly. " Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records according to hospital and regulatory guidelines. " Assist with specimen collection or phlebotomy when required (preferred skill). " Collaborate with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient laboratory workflow and patient care. ________________________________________ Required Certifications Candidates must hold current certifications including: " Basic Life Support (BLS) " ASCP or AMT (American Society of Clinical Pathologists or American Medical Technologists) ________________________________________ Required Skills " " Clinical laboratory testing in Chemistry and Blood Bank " " Experience with Vitros Chemistry Analyzer from Ortho Clinical Diagnostics " " Laboratory Information System experience with Cerner Millennium " " Blood typing, crossmatching, and antibody screening " " Specimen processing and laboratory sample analysis " " Laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance " " Quality control and quality assurance procedures " " Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control standards ________________________________________ Physical Requirements " " Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing laboratory duties. " " Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of laboratory supplies or equipment when required. " " Manual dexterity to handle laboratory instruments, pipettes, and specimen containers accurately. " " Ability to handle and process biological specimens such as blood and other body fluids while following safety protocols. " " Good visual acuity to read test results, labels, and laboratory instruments accurately. " " Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and laboratory equipment while following safety guidelines. " " Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including specimen preparation and testing procedures. " " Capability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, and lab coats during laboratory procedures.
