EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

· Collects body fluids for laboratory tests to provide information for diagnostic, treatment, and/or research decisions.

· Performs serology, immunology, immunohematology, hematology, bacteriology, urinalyses, biochemical, drug susceptibility, and/or other tests.

· Performs phlebotomies.

· Prepares and inoculates culture mediums and identifies organisms.

· Prepares reports of test results.

· Prepares reagents and chemicals.

· Performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as required.

· Performs quality control testing for all procedures as required.

· Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of the principles of biology, chemistry, and physics.

· Knowledge of medical technology practices and procedures.

· Knowledge of the types of laboratory tests.

· Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing procedures.

· Knowledge of chemicals and reagents.

· Knowledge of the significance of laboratory tests.

· Skill in operating laboratory and scientific equipment for conducting tests.

· Ability to communicate effectively.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· For laboratories requiring licensure:

· Licensed or temporarily licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the specialty area(s) (i.e., microbiology, serology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, biophysics, cytotechnology, or histopathological technology) for which the laboratory is registered in accordance with Florida Statute 483
