At STMicroelectronics, we believe in the power of technology to drive innovation and make a positive impact on people, businesses, and society. As a global semiconductor company, our advanced technologies and chips form the hidden foundation of the world we live in today.

When you join ST, you will be part of a global business with more than 115 nationalities, present in 40 countries, and comprising over 50,000 diverse and dedicated creators and makers of technology around the world.

Developing technologies takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration and respect. People with passion and the desire to disrupt the status quo, drive innovation, and unlock their own potential.

Embark on a journey with us, where you can innovate for a future that we want to make smarter and greener, in a responsible and sustainable way. Our technology starts with you.

We are seeking a highly skilled MEMS Design Engineer to join our MEMS R&D team. This role is focused on the design, modeling, and optimization of MEMS devices, with an emphasis on mechanically driven structures for applications such as inertial and pressure sensors. The ideal candidate will work at the intersection of mechanical design, multi-physics simulation, fabrication, and validation to develop robust, high-performance MEMS products that meet demanding functional and manufacturability requirements.

Important Note: This role will be based out of ST's office in Chandler, AZ ONLY. The Austin office is not an option at this time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct mechanical design and development of MEMS devices, from concept through validation and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Evaluate the impact of process variation, residual stress, packaging effects, and non-idealities on device performance and reliability.
  • Drive the iterative loop between design, simulation, fabrication, characterization, and design refinement
  • Collaborate closely with process integration, test, packaging, and ASIC teams to ensure design compatibility and system-level performance.
  • Support correlation between simulation, bench characterization, and production data to improve model accuracy and design robustness.
  • Use data analysis and simulation tools such as ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink, and JMP to support design decisions and root-cause analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in MEMS design, mechanical design, or device development, ideally in an industrial environment.
  • Strong foundation in mechanics, structural dynamics, materials behavior, and physical modeling.
  • Experience with MEMS device design and simulation, including multi-physics analysis and interpretation of test data.
  • Experience working across design-process interfaces and manufacturability optimization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in cross-disciplinary teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience in MEMS sensor or actuator design, including performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and/or multi-physics simulation tools (JMP, ANSYS, COMSOL, etc.).
  • Understanding of reliability, packaging material, and its effects on design of MEMS products.

At STMicroelectronics, base salary is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

The base annual salary range for this role is between $ 103,400 to $ 129,300 USD.
