Job Description

Summary of Functions

Assists in preparing, cooking, and serving food to studentsandstaff inanatmosphere of efficiency,and cleanliness.Willperformvarious fast-pacedandquick-thinking functionstocarryout those objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

FoodService-Prepares, produces,heats,cooks, bakesandservesavarietyoffoodsincludingentrees,meats, vegetables, breads, salads,fresh fruit,sandwiches,beverages or other foodsspecifiedby the menus,recipes,and production records.

-Sets up food and food service areas and serves food.

-Operates kitchen equipment such as, but not limited to, mixers, slicers, ovens, stove tops, tilt-skillets and kettles, warmers, coolers, dishwasher, garbage disposals.

-Utilizes kitchenware such as, but not limited to knives, spatulas, whisks, tongs, spoons, ladles, measuring devices.

Safety- Prepares,handles,storesanddisposes offoodin accordance with appropriatesafety standards. Cleaning-Cleanskitchenequipment,counters,servinglines,andhelpswithalldishesandtrayswhenneeded. Cleansfreezers,coolers,anddrystorageareasdaily,weeklyandmonthlyasneeded.

Cooperation - Works and cooperates with all school personnel.

Assistance- Helpssupervisor plandailywork schedule.Orderingandreceivinginventory.Monthly menus,and production records.

PublicRelations- Takesaffirmativestepstodevelopgoodcooperativerelationshipswithvendors,

staff, students,visitors,andotherswhoutilizeor provide service tothe cafeteria facility.Strives to create a positive,friendlyenvironment,withemphasisinmakingchildrenfeelateaseandenjoytheircafeteria experience.

Acting-Servesashelpfulleaderandmustbeabletoproduce dailymenuitemswhenthesupervisorisabsent. Training-Participates in in-service trainingprograms,asassigned.Provides orientation and trainingto new cafeteria staff.

Other-Performssuchother functionsandassumessuch otherresponsibilitiesasthe supervisormayfromtime to timeassignordelegate.Observessafetyandsecurityprocedures; reportspotentiallyunsafeconditions.

Necessary Skill

-Ability to follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction and take responsibility to completetasksonown.

-Ability to prepare, produce, cook, bake, assemble and serve a large quantity of foods.

-Abilitytoprioritizeandplanworkactivities rapidlyandefficientlywithateam

-Abilitytoworkcohesivelywithpeers,supervisors,schoolpersonnelandstudents

-Ability to meet challenges with resourcefulness and generate suggestions for improving work.

-Must be able to identify and resolve problems in timely manner and approach others in a tactful manner.

-Must be reliable, with an excellent work ethic.

Qualifications Education/Experience -

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skills and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. However, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in school food services or (4) years in related food service
  • Knowledgeofandexperienceinfoodpreparation,particularlyinpreparinglargequantities
  • Ability to interact positively with students, supervisors and staff
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions/recipes
  • Must have, or be able to obtain during the probationary period, a food handler's permit
  • Physical ability to walk and stand for an eight (8) hour shift; stand for extended periods; and to exert 10 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to work with others and without close supervision
  • Good work habits
