Overview
The Metrology Technician supports production and development initiatives by implementing, maintaining, and advancing metrology equipment, processes, and capabilities. This role collaborates closely with engineering, mold development, and production teams to ensure accurate measurement systems, reliable inspection results, and continuous process improvement.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, calibrate, and verify metrology equipment, standards, and procedures to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance
- Support procurement, installation, and qualification of new metrology equipment and software
- Program and optimize measurement systems, including multi-sensor CMMs and advanced optical equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Assist in the design and development of new measurement techniques, fixtures, and inspection methods
- Perform and document First Article Inspections (FAI) and maintain the FAI system
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to production measurement operators
- Train production supervisors on approved measurement programs and troubleshooting techniques
- Support mold development and production teams with metrology expertise and analysis
Must Haves
- Associate's Degree in Applied Science or equivalent technical experience
- Hands-on experience with CMM programming and advanced metrology systems
- Proficiency troubleshooting precision measurement equipment
- Working knowledge of calibration systems, measurement standards, and inspection procedures
- Technical understanding of optical connectors and related applications
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Effective communication skills and ability to support cross-functional teams
Nice to Haves
- Experience with confocal microscopy, CT scanning, SEM, AFM, or interferometry systems
- Familiarity with contact gauging tools such as calipers, micrometers, and pin gauges
- Experience developing custom fixtures or measurement methodologies
- Background supporting high-precision manufacturing environments
