Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 5–8) – 2026–2027 School Year
Location: 1780 Betty Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89156Compensation Range: $54,000 – $60,813 annually (DOE)Start Date: Summer 2026
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 5–8) to join our team at the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas for the 2026–2027 school year.
The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that develops students’ scientific reasoning, inquiry skills, and understanding of core scientific concepts. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and structured learning environment where scholars explore science through experimentation, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and data-informed teaching practices.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement
Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned science instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and Nevada Academic Content Standards.
Teach core science concepts including life science, physical science, and earth/space science.
Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional planning.
Foster scientific inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking skills.
Classroom Culture & Student Development
Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.
Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
Encourage curiosity, exploration, and student engagement in scientific learning.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities (PLCs).
Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and school leadership to strengthen instructional practices.
Use student performance data to support instructional improvement and targeted interventions.
Contribute to school-wide systems focused on student achievement and continuous improvement.
Family Engagement
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations.
Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home–school partnerships.
Support family engagement initiatives that promote student success.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
Valid teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or a related field
Additionally, candidates must:
Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset
Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
Successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Nevada state requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching middle school science (grades 5–8)
Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments
Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELLs)
Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
