7th & 8th Grade Middle School Science Teacher ($2,000 Sign-On)

Location: 3335 W Flower St, Phoenix, AZ 85017

Start: July 20 2026

Compensation Range: $48,331.25 - $54,571.89 annually (DOE)

Position OverviewAcademies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 7 & 8) to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that strengthens scholars’ scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making.

This role requires a teacher who is committed to supporting students in Title I communities while maintaining high academic expectations and fostering a structured, engaging learning environment that prepares students for high school success.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Achievement

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned science instruction aligned with AMS curriculum frameworks for middle school grades.
  • Build strong foundations in scientific inquiry, critical thinking, experimentation, and data analysis.
  • Design engaging lessons that promote conceptual understanding, real-world application, and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instructional planning and targeted interventions.

Classroom Culture & Student Support

  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies to support student behavior and engagement.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Encourage persistence, collaboration, and critical thinking when solving complex scientific problems.

Collaboration & Professional Growth

  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives focused on STEM education and academic achievement.
  • Use student data and reflective practices to continuously improve instruction.

Family Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships.
  • Provide families with strategies and resources to support science learning at home.

Minimum QualificationsCandidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Valid teaching certification in Science or a relevant subject area, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Education, STEM field, or similar field), OR
  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–8 teaching experience

Additionally, candidates must:

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
  • Possess strong analytical abilities and enthusiasm for data-driven instruction
  • Demonstrate collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
