Middle School Social Studies Teacher (2026–2027)Location:AMS Little RockSalary Range: $53,314 - $56,016(based on verified full-time teaching experience)
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS Arkansas represents our first expansion beyond Arizona, and we are excited to serve students and families in the Little Rock community. We believe in high expectations, rigorous instruction, and strong relationships to develop students into engaged, informed, and critical thinkers.
AMS is seeking a passionate, data-driven Middle School Social Studies Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction and foster students’ understanding of history, civics, geography, and social responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned Social Studies instruction aligned to AMS curriculum frameworks
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students performing above and below grade level
- Develop students’ critical thinking, analytical, and discussion skills through historical and real-world connections
- Use formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction and interventions
Classroom Culture & Student Support
- Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment
- Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies
- Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities
- Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders
- Engage in data analysis cycles to improve student outcomes
Family Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
- Lead conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies, History, or related fieldOR
- Valid state teaching certification in a relevant subject areaOR
- Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience
Additionally, candidates must:
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
- Show commitment to serving Title I and diverse student populations
- Demonstrate a data-driven instructional mindset
- Exhibit professionalism, collaboration, and initiative
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education or related field
- Prior middle school teaching experience
- Arkansas state teaching certification
Background Requirements
- Arkansas State Background Check
- Child Maltreatment Central Registry Check
- Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) required background clearance and fingerprinting
