Job Description

Note: APA operates on a 37.5-hour work week with one-hour lunch breaks each day. APA sets salaries based on several considerations, including years of relevant experience, level of education, and previous staff and/or governance experience at APA.

The Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation (OPCA) facilitates the APA-Commission on Accreditation's policy development and program review for the accreditation of master's, doctoral, internship, and postdoctoral programs in health service psychology. Monitors program compliance with accreditation policy between periodic reviews (all levels - Master's, Doctoral, Internship, Postdoctoral), with focus on interim reporting, substantive changes, and threshold/fiscal changes. The Monitoring & Compliance Associate conducts high quality reviews of psychology program compliance reports and provides consultation on the Standards of Accreditation (SoA) [all levels]. Applies the SoA in conducting compliance reviews; serves as a key leader during CoA meetings; and composes detailed correspondence regarding accreditation decision outcome feedback, which may reflect negative decisions that pose legal implications and require legal consultation and review. The Monitoring and Compliance Associate must operate with an awareness of the confidential nature of accreditation information and program materials to avoid putting the office at legal risk.

Education and Experience:

  • Position requires a bachelor's degree in psychology, Liberal Arts, or a related field
  • 3+ years of general office experience that included decision making, critical thinking, and demonstration of good judgment.
  • Excellent formal writing skills, keen attention to detail, and experience with APA format are required
  • Strong analysis, communication, and organizational skills in relation to prioritizing and managing a diverse and demanding workload.
  • Experience with database systems and customer service preferred.
  • Knowledge of accreditation processes and services is preferred.

Computer Skills Required:

  • Advanced in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Must be able to operate effectively in online, database-driven environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a specialist on the SoA and other relevant accreditation policy. Provides consultation to constituents, with a focus on substantive changes and interim reporting.
  • Provides high-level administrative support, including monitoring the submission/review process for compliance reports (e.g. interim reports, substantive changes, threshold/fiscal change updates [all levels, defined above]). Provides extensive technical support and troubleshooting through mastery of all relevant technical systems.
  • Problem-solves straightforward consultation requests and analyzes solutions to more complex inquiries that arise using standard procedures. Escalates critical updates, as appropriate.
  • Performs analysis of SoA compliance reports [all levels, defined above]. Develops, maintains, and applies in-depth knowledge of accreditation standards, policies, and procedures. Composes reports summarizing compliance issues based on the SoA.
  • Composes detailed accreditation decision letters, including those with negative feedback that pose legal implications and require legal consultation and review.
  • Provides direct support to the CoA during the Commission's program review meetings (3-4 weekends per year) which includes leading program review panels and recording and reporting in extensive detail all SoA non-compliance issues and accreditation decisions.
  • Other duties as assigned: Assists with special projects delegated by the Manager, Program Monitoring and Compliance or Associate Director, Accreditation Operations.
