Position Overview:
The National Equipment Planning Director will be responsible for establishing field yard organizational systems, tool & equipment lifecycles, equipment specification, rent vs. own analysis, capex justification, leasing selection, and equipment commissioning/decommissioning. This role involves means and methods planning, selecting, proving out and integrating tooling/equipment and methods to job sites nationwide while ensuring systems are established to maintain compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction and steel erection job site environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the equipment (including fleet vehicles) inventory, tool inventory, consumables inventory, implementing standardized yard procedures, and ensuring cleanliness/organization and safety protocols
- Coordinate with yard manager/supervisors to maintain accurate inventory and optimize space utilization
- Manage equipment lifecycle, including 5-year strategic planning, annual budget planning, capex justification, leasing, utilization, maintenance, repair, and commissioning/decommissioning
- Work with equipment suppliers/rental companies and contractors to ensure targeted equipment uptime, competitive rates and field support
- Develop a business case for each capital expenditure and ensure the ROI for the investment is achieved (post-implementation tracking)
- Develop and coordinate training on equipment handling, safety, and operational procedures
- Collaborate with pre-construction, project management, fabrication, erection, quality, and safety teams to align to project goals and execution
- Monitor capex project costs and schedules to ensure alignment with capital expenditure plans
- Develop KPIs (key performance indicators) and maintain routine reviews/reporting
- Participate in industry groups to stay current on best practices and industry trends
- Travel to field yards (regularly) and job sites (occasionally) to ensure operations are compliant to expectations. Travel does not exceed 50% of time annually.
