Job Description
Main Purpose: Responsibilities include developing strategies for and executing natural gas trades in both the physical and derivatives markets; conducting in-depth analysis of market conditions, price trends, and supply-demand dynamics; identifying opportunities to manage exposure and implement new trading strategies; performing market analysis to establish pricing strategies and making critical decisions to maximize profit; drafting market reports; managing exposure and conducting daily hedging to assess how positions are aggregating into consolidated market exposure; verifying that contracts are aligning with internal requirements and accurately reflecting negotiated deals to avoid significant economic consequences; entering trades into proper systems to enable risk management; and serving as a bridge between the trading desk and deals desk, collaborating with North American Natural Gas physical traders to develop directional risk-taking strategies, providing market guidance, and relaying market intelligence between domestic and international teams.
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor degree or foreign equivalent in Business, Economics or Finance or a related field.
Minimum Required Experience: Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience on a natural gas trading desk performing each of the following duties: Coordinating and optimizing all aspects of post-deal trading activity to ensure smooth contract performance; Nominating, confirming, and balancing natural gas volumes across interstate and intrastate pipelines and market hubs, while managing storage inventory and reconciliations; Monitoring pipeline cuts, constraints, maintenance events, and weather disruptions, and advising risk and trading teams of potential costs and penalties; Scheduling transportation in compliance with pipeline tariffs, FERC regulations, transportation agreements, and internal audit protocols; Collaborating with traders, risk managers, accountants, legal teams, third-party operators, and external counterparties to ensure accurate, timely, and actionable operational data; Resolving operational disruptions by adjusting nominations, rebooking volumes, and reallocating gas to preserve schedule integrity and contractual performance; and Maintaining accurate and timely operational data to support financial reporting, risk oversight, and commercial decision-making.
